Storage baskets are ten a penny these days, but finding one that actually ventilates properly whilst looking decent? That's trickier than it sounds. The TATAY Bohol promises both form and function with its nature-inspired design and built-in airflow system.
At £20.49 for a 20-litre basket with lid, it's not the cheapest option on the market. But Spanish brand TATAY has built a reputation for thoughtful storage solutions, and this Bohol model brings some clever touches that caught my attention. The question is whether those premium features justify the price tag.
The Bohol's aesthetic draws inspiration from the Philippine island's landscapes, which sounds like marketing fluff until you see it. The grey plastic has a textured, almost woven appearance that doesn't scream 'cheap storage bin' like so many alternatives. At 30 × 39 × 21.5 cm, it's a practical size for most shelving units without dominating the space.
The integrated handles aren't just token gestures either. They're properly recessed and comfortable to grip, making the basket genuinely portable rather than awkward to shift around. I've seen too many storage solutions where the handles feel like an afterthought.
Here's where the TATAY Bohol gets interesting. Those aren't just decorative holes in the sides — they're strategically placed to create airflow without compromising structural integrity. This makes it brilliant for storing anything that benefits from breathing: sports kit, linens that aren't quite dry, or seasonal clothes that need air circulation.

The ventilation design also prevents that musty smell that often develops in sealed plastic containers. It's a simple solution to a common problem that most manufacturers ignore completely.
The stackable design works properly, with each basket sitting securely on the one below. The dimensions are clearly designed with standard UK shelving in mind, though you'll want to measure your cupboards first. Multiple baskets create a surprisingly neat storage wall when stacked together.
The modular approach means you can start with one and add more later, though at over £20 each, building a complete system gets expensive quickly. That's my main gripe with an otherwise well-thought-out product.
TATAY uses recycled plastic that feels reassuringly solid. There's no flex or creaking when you lift a full basket, and the material has a quality feel that suggests it'll handle regular use. The BPA-free certification is standard now, but worth noting for anyone storing items that might come into contact with food.

The lid fits snugly without being impossible to remove — another small detail that shows proper design consideration. Some storage boxes require a crowbar to open once the lid's on properly.
The TATAY Bohol delivers on its promises with thoughtful design and genuine functionality. It's expensive for what it is, but the ventilation system and quality construction justify the premium if you need proper airflow storage. Skip it if you're just after basic sealed storage on a budget.
