Buying clothing online carries more risk than almost any other product category — you can't feel the fabric, check the fit, or see the true colour. But there are ways to buy more confidently.

Size guides are not optional — use them. Amazon clothing comes from dozens of different brands and countries of origin, each with its own sizing conventions. A size medium from one brand can be a large from another. Always check the specific size guide, measure yourself, and compare. If you're between sizes, read the reviews to see whether the item runs large or small.

Fabric composition affects everything. Feel, durability, care requirements, and how the item behaves after washing all come down to what it's made of. Avoid anything where the composition isn't clearly listed. Natural fibres (cotton, wool, linen) generally breathe better and age better; synthetics are often cheaper and more crease-resistant but can feel less comfortable.

Read the return policy before you buy. Most Amazon clothing is returnable, but some marketplace sellers have restrictive return windows or require you to pay return postage. Check this before purchasing, especially for higher-value items.

Photos can be misleading — look for customer photos. Product listing photos are usually professionally lit and sometimes shot on models with styling to make the item look its best. Customer-uploaded photos in the reviews are almost always more accurate. Look for these before buying.

Invest in basics, experiment cheaply. For everyday wardrobe staples — jeans, plain T-shirts, coats — quality matters and it's worth spending more. For trend pieces you'll wear a handful of times, a cheaper option makes more sense.
